ZANU PF political commissar Munyaradzi Machacha has said businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei is not yet a member of the party’s central committee, contradicting secretary for legal affairs Patrick Chinamasa, who earlier asserted that Tagwirei’s co-optation was a done deal.
The ZANU PF Harare provincial executive, led by Godwills Masimirembwa, has been pushing for Tagwirei’s inclusion in the central committee, but Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga blocked the move last month.
Party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has also accused Tagwirei of using money to secure positions and argued that the co-option process should be conducted afresh.
Chinamasa responded by insisting that Tagwirei’s elevation, along with that of four others, had already been finalised.
In an interview with NewsDay over the weekend, Machacha said the central committee would make the final decision on the matter, as Harare province’s position was not binding. He said:
“The final position will be made by the central committee. That is how our procedure works.
“Provinces may make recommendations, but it is the central committee which accepts any recommendation or makes any other decision.
“We will wait for the central committee to make the final decision.”
Harare Province co-opted Tagwirei into the central committee in March this year amid speculation that he was being positioned to succeed President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
