A driver of a Subaru Forester struck three pedestrians on Nketa Drive in Bulawayo just after 7 PM on Saturday.
According to police, the motorist lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and hit three people standing on the roadside. The car then sideswiped a Honda Fit travelling in the opposite direction.
Tragically, two of the pedestrians died on the spot, while the third was severely injured. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said:
“The ZRP is investigating a fatal road traffic accident which occurred along Nketa Drive in Bulawayo on 30/08/25 at 1917 hours.
“A motorist who was driving a Subaru Forester lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and struck three pedestrians standing on the roadside before side-swiping a Honda Fit vehicle, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
“As a result, two pedestrians died on the spot, while the third pedestrian was severely injured.
“The bodies of the victims were taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem examination, while the injured victim was referred to the same institution for treatment.”
Police in Bulawayo said the Subaru Forester involved in the fatal accident was speeding and was not licensed or insured. The victims were identified as a teenage girl and a woman.
The silver Subaru was driven by 30-year-old Tinashe Ndoroora, who now faces culpable homicide charges.
The tragic incident occurred opposite Intunta Primary School along Nketa Drive. The victims, 14-year-old Militia Moyo and 44-year-old Adija Phiri, were standing with an 11-year-old girl, who survived but remains in critical condition at Mpilo Hospital.
Police confirmed that Ndoroora, who had no passengers in the vehicle, first sideswiped a Honda Fit driven by Tapiwa Philani Chikoto before veering off the road and striking the trio.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, provided further details on the incident. She said:
“He was driving a silver Subaru Forester due north. The vehicle has no valid insurance or vehicle licence. The registered owner of the motor vehicle is yet to be established.”
Ast Insp Ndlovu said both Militia and Adija sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. She said:
“Both vehicles were taken to Nkulumane Traffic Police Station, awaiting VED inspection. The cause of the accident was due to speeding and failure to keep a proper lookout by Ndoora, hence the charge of culpable homicide.”
The Subaru sustained extensive front-end damage, while the Honda Fit was damaged on its right side.
