A Harare woman reported her husband to the police for illegally keeping a firearm in their home following a domestic dispute.
Pardon Zengeni (29) appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo in Harare Magistrates Court, charged with unlawful possession of a firearm under the Firearms Act.
Prosecutor Nomsa Kangara told the court that on 5 August 2025, the complainant returned from work and found an unsecured firearm in a drawer.
When confronted, Zengeni said the gun belonged to his employer, Chris Noble.
The court heard that Zengeni’s wife was worried about the weapon in their home, which led him to quickly remove it.
Tensions rose further after she later had a clash with Zengeni’s mother. Said Kangara:
“The accused intervened, urging his wife to respect his mother. This angered her even more, culminating in her reporting the firearm incident to the police.”
Zengeni was arrested at the couple’s home, and the firearm was seized as evidence.
Prosecutor Kangara argued that keeping an unauthorised firearm in a household drawer posed a risk to public safety.
Magistrate Moyo granted Zengeni bail of US$50, ordering him not to interfere with witnesses. The firearm is being held at Avondale Police Station pending ballistic tests.
The case will resume on 20 August.
