A 41-year-old man from Waterfalls, Harare, was on Sunday arrested for allegedly assaulting his 19-year-old son to death after he failed police recruitment tests.

The suspect, Gibson Munyoro, a security officer, is said to have sent his son, Ngonidzashe Munyoro, to Mkushi Academy (formerly Morris Depot) for police interviews on 29 July 2025.

On 2 August 2025, Ngonidzashe was sent home after being deemed unfit for police duties. When questioned about his failure, his response reportedly did not satisfy his father.

Gibson is alleged to have tied his son’s hands and legs before placing an iron bar between them, suspending him between two tables, and assaulting him with a baton.

Ngonidzashe reportedly screamed for help during the attack, but Gibson allegedly threatened those present, warning them not to intervene.

The assault ended when his mother, Ruvimbo Masunga, arrived after being informed of the incident.

With the help of others, she restrained Gibson and moved Ngonidzashe into the house, where he collapsed and died. Gibson was subsequently arrested.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case. He said:

“Police are investigating a murder case involving a teenager and his biological father. Full details will be released in due course.”
