Two women were reportedly raped in separate incidents at Granville Cemetery in Harare on Saturday night, according to police.

In the first case, an 18-year-old woman was attacked while walking with her boyfriend near the cemetery. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said the couple was approached by two unknown men who demanded their national identity documents.

The suspects allegedly assaulted the man before one of them dragged the woman onto a grave site, where both men reportedly took turns to rape her without protection.

They also allegedly struck the woman on the head with an unidentified object, causing her to lose consciousness.

She later regained consciousness and, together with her boyfriend, reported the incident at ZRP Southlea Park.

Inspector Chakanza confirmed a second incident at the same location involving a 26-year-old woman, which occurred just before midnight. He said:

Police are investigating two rape cases where two men took turns to rape two woman at different times on a grave the same day.

The victims have since been escorted to Edith Opperman Clinic for medical examination.

In the second case, a 26-year-old was raped by two men until she fell unconsciousness.

The complainant had left home leaving a seven-month-old baby going to Boka on foot at around 11 PM.

The accused persons forcibly laid the complainant on top of the grave, forcibly undressed her and raped her one after the other without protection.

As police, we continue to urge people to avoid walking in secluded places during the night.

We want to warn the perpetrators that the long arm of the law will surely catch up with them.
