The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) released the June 2025 Ordinary and Advanced Level results on Saturday morning, reporting a rise in pass rates for both levels.

Addressing journalists in Harare, ZIMSEC Board Chairperson Professor Paul Mapfumo revealed that more students had registered and sat for the Ordinary Level exams this year.

Prof. Mapfumo said the overall pass rate for Ordinary Level candidates had improved by 1.43 percent compared to 2024. He said:

The total number of candidates who sat for five or more subjects in the June 2025 examinations was 511, which is 1.27 percent of the total candidature of 40 368, and the remainder sat for less than five subjects.

Of these, 30 candidates passed with a Grade C or better, yielding a pass rate of 5.87 percent. In comparison, the total number of candidates who sat for five or more subjects in June 2024 was 383, which is 1.27 percent of the total candidature of 30 088, and the remainder sat for four or fewer.

Of these, 17 candidates passed with Grade C or better, yielding a pass rate of 4.44 percent. The 2025 pass rate, therefore, increased by 1.43 percent.

The number of students who registered for the June Advanced Level examinations declined compared to previous sessions, but the overall pass rate showed an improvement. Said Prof. Mapfumo:

The total number of candidates who sat for the June 2025 Advanced Level examinations was 110, compared to 120 who sat for the same examination in 2024. There was a decrease of 10 in candidature, translating to a percentage decrease of 8.33 percent.

It is important to mention that the June 2025 Advanced Level candidates were all private candidates, there were no school candidates registered for this session.

Of the 110 candidates, 62 wrote two or more subjects, and 42 obtained Grade E or better in two or more subjects. This translates to an overall pass rate of 67.74 percent.

In comparison, in the June 2024 examination, 52 candidates wrote two or more subjects, and 38 obtained Grade E or better in two or more subjects. This translates to a 31.67 percent pass rate.

The statistics show that there was a 36.07 percent increase in the overall pass rate.

The examination results will be available online starting this Saturday, with access granted to all candidates and authorised personnel through the ZIMSEC portal.

The portal will remain open for five days only. Meanwhile, Heads of Examination Centres can collect physical copies of the results for their respective schools or centres from ZIMSEC Regional Offices on Monday, 4 August 2025.
