Dynamos have reportedly increased their players’ winning bonuses by over 300 percent in a bid to squeeze out maximum effort as they fight to stay afloat in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
The Glamour Boys find themselves in unfamiliar territory—lingering near the foot of the table with just 16 points from 23 games. With only 11 matches to play, they are eight points adrift of safety.
The 2025 season has been anything but smooth for DeMbare. They kicked off under the guidance of Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe, who was later replaced by Saul Chaminuka. Now, the reins have been handed to newly appointed Zambian pastor-cum-coach, Kelvin Kaindu.
Dynamos executive chairman Moses Maunganidze admitted the club is fully aware of the tough spot they’re in. He said:
We should admit that times are hard for us in the field of play. Sometimes things work but sometimes they don’t.
It’s been the latter for us for the past 23 games. We have changed coaches and still the positive results never came.
It’s been a rocky phase. But let me be clear. There has never been a month that the players were not paid as some people want to peddle.
It’s very unfortunate but this is the situation we have now. Our sponsors, Sakunda Holdings have been handy as always.
We have 11 games to do the right thing and save ourselves from falling into the pit.
So, we have a partner that has come on board and sponsored financial resources to help us survive. We have increased the players’ winning bonuses starting this week.
The players know this already and they are excited. They want to deliver and save the team.
We have also sought to invest in the players’ mentality. We have hired a team of psychologists to help the team.
They started working with the players last week and the attitude is now better. We will move along with the team of those psychologists until the end of the season.
While club chairman Moses Maunganidze chose not to reveal exact figures, particularly around the revised winning bonuses, Zimpapers Sports Hub understands that players will now pocket between US$350 and US$400 for every win until the end of the season.
Whether this financial push will be enough to steer DeMbare clear of the drop zone remains to be seen. Could it be too little, too late? Well, time will tell.
