Artisanal Miner Bites Off Girlfriend’s Nose For Deleting Her Cellphone Call History

A 48-year-old artisanal miner was convicted at Gwanda Magistrates’ Court for physically assaulting his girlfriend during a domestic dispute in Colleen Bawn on 2 July 2025.

The court sentenced the man to 18 months’ imprisonment, with 8 months suspended, resulting in an effective 10-month jail term.

The incident took place around 7pm at the Vhovha mining area. The victim, a 45-year-old vendor, had received a phone call which she answered in the presence of the offender. After deleting the call history, the man grew suspicious and became enraged.

He assaulted the victim by striking her on the mouth and back of the head with a stick and biting off part of her left nose.
