Shamva Man Arrested For Impersonating CID Detective

Police in Shamva have arrested a 35-year-old man, Tawanda Makamba, on allegations of impersonating a police officer and extortion following a sting operation conducted on 26 July 2025.

According to police, Makamba and two accomplices, who remain at large, posed as detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Stores and Business section.

The trio reportedly approached a local resident in Shamva, accusing him of stealing a cellphone.

The suspects then allegedly demanded US$30 from the complainant as a condition for his release.

Fearing arrest, the victim complied, handing over the money. The bogus officers released him shortly thereafter.
