Former Dynamos coach Kalisto Pasuwa has urged the club’s leadership to take urgent action to prevent relegation from the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Dynamos’ woes deepened on Sunday as they slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season, a 3-0 loss to Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium.

The Harare giants now sit second from bottom after 23 matches, making them strong contenders for relegation.

Pasuwa, who guided Dynamos to an unprecedented four consecutive league titles between 2011 and 2014, told The Herald that the club’s hierarchy must act swiftly to steer the team away from the drop zone. He said:

I am pleading with the people at Dynamos. Of course, they are a big club but a club can only maintain that stature depending on how the people in charge are handling it.

It cannot remain big just because of the name Dynamos. Dynamos used to be a big force in Southern Africa. Even the likes of TP Mazembe and Mamelodi Sundowns were at some point below the stature of Dynamos.

But now when people talk about football in Southern Africa, they talk of Sundowns, and no mention Dynamos which means there are some things that we are doing wrong which need to be mended.

Dynamos used to be the face of Zimbabwean football in Southern Africa. But right now we have new teams coming up, the likes of Scottland and MWOS, who are overshadowing Dynamos.

These are clubs owned by people who most probably used to support Dynamos, but these people are passionate about the game and want to show the way in developing football in this country.

I hope the (DeMbare) leadership hears this message and they do their best to make the club great again.

Supporters are not having peaceful sleep at night and even some of us are getting disturbed about where this club is going. Hopefully, everything will be well.

Pasuwa remains the last coach to have led Dynamos to a league title, achieving the feat in 2014.

This season, Dynamos have only managed a meagre 16 points from 23 matches and currently sit 17th on the log — eight points adrift of safety.

Traditionally, teams require at least 40 points to avoid relegation, meaning Dynamos would need to collect 24 points from their remaining 11 fixtures — a daunting task given their dismal form this campaign.
