The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has dismissed circulating social media reports claiming another road traffic accident at Hunyani Bridge along Seke Road.
According to a report, the driver of a Trip Trans bus lost control and rammed into two cars travelling in the same direction on Thursday evening.
The report further claimed that passengers on the bus and the occupants of the two cars escaped unhurt.
The conductor is said to have disappeared with the cash paid as bus fare, leaving the passengers stranded.
However, in a statement issued on Friday morning, the ZRP clarified that the incident involved a bus that experienced a mechanical breakdown. No injuries or fatalities were recorded. The ZRP said:
The ZRP refutes reports circulating on social media about a road traffic accident at Hunyani Bridge along Seke Road on 24/07/25. There was only a bus breakdown at the scene, with no accident reported.
The incident comes just two days after a devastating accident at the same bridge involving a South Africa-registered haulage truck and a Nissan Caravan commuter omnibus.
The truck veered into the opposite lane after hitting two pedestrians, then collided head-on with the kombi, killing 17 people on the spot.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has since declared the 22 July crash a national disaster, pledging government support for funeral arrangements and hospital bills.
