Essential Tools

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba has issued warned individuals fabricating and circulating fake government statements that the state will not tolerate such misdemeanours.

Posting on his X account, Jamwanda, on Friday, Charamba expressed concern over the growing trend of forged statements being shared online, often purporting to come from high-ranking officials.

He questioned the motives behind the creation of such misleading content. Charamba further warned that those behind these acts will soon face serious consequences.

His remarks follow the circulation of a fake statement claiming that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had appointed Ambrose Mutinhiri as Vice President, allegedly replacing Kembo Mohadi due to ill health.

The false announcement, which was widely shared across social media platforms, bore a fabricated official stamp and mimicked the tone and structure of official communication.

The government has previously raised concern over the abuse of social media for political mischief.
