A 21-year-old man from Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb has died after ingesting rat poison, following a domestic dispute with his mother.
Thabiso Ndlovu passed away at Mpilo Central Hospital on 14 July, two days after consuming the substance at the family’s home.
According to Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the incident occurred around 1PM on 12 July after an argument between Ndlovu and his 41-year-old mother over spilled cooking oil. Said Msebele:
The warning did not go down well with the now deceased, who got angry and drank rat killer poison.
His mother saw him vomiting and when she inquired, he admitted to having consumed the poison.
An ambulance was called, and Ndlovu was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital, where he was admitted under observation.
Two days later, on the morning of 14 July, his mother was informed by the hospital that he had passed away.
Police have launched an investigation, although no foul play is suspected at this stage.
