Zimbabwe’s gold exports jumped 24% in the first five months of 2025, reaching US$748 million compared to US$599.2 million during the same period last year, according to figures from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ).

Monthly data for 2025 shows a generally strong performance across the board. In January, gold exports stood at US$123.1 million, up from US$112 million in January 2024. February recorded US$117 million, compared to US$109 million in the same month in 2024.

The most significant year-on-year jump came in March, with exports surging to US$155.6 million, nearly doubling the US$82.2 million recorded in March 2024.

April followed suit, with exports rising to US$183.3 million, up from US$102.6 million the previous year. May, however, saw a slight dip, registering US$168.7 million, down from US$193.5 million in May 2024.

The US$148.8 million overall increase highlights the expanding contribution of the gold sector to Zimbabwe’s economy.

Gold remains the country’s top export commodity, with exports totalling US$1.52 billion in 2024.

Small-scale gold producers continue to dominate the sector, consistently outproducing large-scale mining companies.
