Zimbabwean Woman Publicly Humiliated While Begging In South Africa

Essential Tools

A Zimbabwean woman begging at a traffic light in Pretoria, South Africa, was publicly shamed and forced to leave by a group of local women who accused her of tarnishing the country’s image and demanded she return to Zimbabwe.

In a viral video shared by a leader of an anti-foreigner movement, the woman, seen with two young children, was called a “professional beggar” and blamed for bringing Zimbabwean poverty into South Africa.

The group told her to seek help from President Emmerson Mnangagwa instead. The women shouted:

We are sick and tired of you guys; we do not want you here. Go back to Zimbabwe and never come back.

If you have a problem and you are not working, go to Mnangagwa, go back to your country. We do not want you here anymore. Never set foot in this place again.

Professional beggar, go and fix your country, go and fix your problems, not here.

When tourists pass here, they take pictures of you, saying this is a South African woman, when it is Zimbabwean poverty in South Africa. You cannot come and beg here when there are robots in Zimbabwe; go and beg there.

The anti-foreigner group, which advocates for a “South Africans First” policy, operates in public spaces such as hospitals, where they have been seen forcibly removing foreign nationals.
