O.R. Tambo Airport Gold Smuggler Identified

The gold smuggler who was arrested at O.R. Tambo Airport in South Africa after he was found in possession of gold worth US$700 000 has been identified as Tashinga Nyasha Masinire.

The accused who was reportedly coming from Harare has been granted bail of R100 000 at Kempton Park Regional Court in South Africa.

Masinire who had gold bars worth R11 million (US$700 000) was Sunday intercepted by South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) at OR Tambo International Airport.

Reports suggest that the gold smuggler was travelling from Harare to Johannesburg.

Reported cases of gold smuggling have been on the rise lately amid claims that Zimbabwe is losing billions through smuggling.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority earlier bemoaned the porous borders while analysts blame Fidelity Printers for offering unattractive gold prices.

  1. How far with the cases of other Gold smuglers. The likes of Rushwaya. They will always smugle the Gold as they know its a catch and release style in Zimbabwe.

  2. The smuggling cartel is high up in the echelons of power and connections, Fidelity Printers is wholly involved, so are the Securocrats and not to outdone is the captured Judiciary.
