MDC Alliance's Vongai Tome Released After 22 Days In Detention
MDC Alliance activist, Vongai Tome has been released from prison by the High Court on Wednesday after spending 22 days in prison.
Tome was arrested for alleged disorderly conduct after accusing police officers of fondling her breasts at the Harare Magistrate Courts.
Tome, who is the MDC Alliance women assembly national secretary for mobilisation, was being represented by the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum. Posting on Twitter, her lawyers said:
Our lawyer, Noble Chinhanu secured bail for Vongai Tome at the High Court today. Mrs Tome endured 22 days in detention. She is accused of disorderly conduct after she raised alarm when a police officer fondled her breast at the Harare Magistrate Courts.
She was reportedly fondled by a police officer who was dispersing party youths who had come to court in solidarity with convicted party colleague, Makomborero Haruzivishe.

Tome and the other three MDC Alliance members – Kudakwashe Butau, Ngonidzashe Mupfumba and Patrick Shumba, were picked up by police and charged with disorderly conduct.
They were released today on a ZWL$$5000 bail each.
