ZRP: First Lady’s Convoy Wasn’t Involved In The Accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has denied reports which suggest that First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa’s convoy was involved in a road accident in Chinhoyi on Friday.

The accident claimed the life of a ZRP officer identified as Sgt Freddy Chipato of ZRP Chinhoyi Traffic who was on VIP duty to clear the road for the First Lady who was on her way from Mhangura.

She had travelled to donate to 3-weeks-old twins whose mother died immediately after giving birth.

It had been suggested that the deceased was the First Lady’s executive escort motorbike outrider. Speaking about the accident, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:

The First Lady’s convoy was not involved at all in the road traffic accident.

Sgt Chipato collided with a Toyota Altezza at the 131 km peg along Harare-Chirundu highway road after the driver of the Altezza, Tinotenda Esau Mutandiro swerved to the right resulting in a collision.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi says Mutandiro is now facing culpable homicide charges.
