Some people have including a pest controller at Seke South Clinic and a nurse have already started selling COVID-19 vaccination certificates to willing buyers in Zimbabwe who have not been vaccinated, The Herald reports.
The matter came to light after ZRP following an investigation that was done by The Herald appealed to members of the public to help them with information about the operations of the trio.
ZRP National spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of the 3 people who are believed to have committed the crime. Said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi:
I can confirm that the police, working with the Special Anti-Corruption Unit, have arrested Sekai Gabriel, pest controller at Seke South Clinic, Shorai Sithori, a nurse, and Lloyd Chidziva, an agent, for corruptly selling Covid vaccination cards. They are all in police custody. They will appear in court soon.
The cards were reportedly being sold to buyers who want them for different reasons for anything between US$25 and US$50 while actual vaccination is free in Zimbabwe at the moment.
Meanwhile, the government will start issuing electronic COVID-19 vaccination cards that will be linked to one’s ID and Passport.
So far about 15000 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 while a total of 76 995 have already received the first dose of the vaccine.
