FULL TEXT: Get Vaccinated – MDC T To Zimbabweans

The MDC T led by Douglas Mwonzora has urged Zimbabweans to be vaccinated against COVID-19. This came after  their leader’s Douglas Mwonzora revealed that he was vaccinated just before he left for Victoria Falls where he gave the vote of thanks at the launch of the second phase of the vaccination program.

In the statement MDC T said Zimbabweans must put their differences aside and face the monster called COVID-19:

MDC T Statement on the Victoria Falls Phase 2 Vaccination Launch

Today the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency E.D. Mnangagwa, launched the Sinopharm vaccine in Victoria Falls. Invited were, among others, political leaders who are within and outside the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD). As the MDC T we are not in POLAD as our leader did not participate in the 2018 election as a Presidential candidate, which is a key requirement according to the POLAD constitutive document. The invitation to attend was extended to the MDC T by the Ministry of Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs. Apart from being the leader of the of the MDC T, President Douglas Mwonzora is also the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

Our decision to participate in the event was informed by the position that we have taken as a Party, that the Covid 19 pandemic is a national and international emergency that has to be completely depoliticised. Everyone across the political divide has to play their part in fighting this pandemic. Further, the MDC T is on record urging government to procure vaccines in order to protect our people. Now that the vaccines have been procured we need to educate and encourage our people to take the vaccine. We view the taking of the vaccine as a must for our people. Apart from what has happened today, the MDC T will take part in advocacy work, encouraging our people to take the vaccine. We are aware, however, that the vaccines so far procured are not enough for all our people. We urge the government to channel enough resources to the procurement of more vaccines to cover all our people. We specifically, urge that these vaccines be made available to the poor and disadvantaged communities without favour. These include communities in high density suburbs, the rural areas and the farming communities. As schools, colleges and universities have been opened, government must also prioritise vaccination of our educators.

The MDC T encourages all Zimbabweans to put their differences aside and confront this monster called Covid 19, as a united force. We owe it to ourselves and our children and our children’s children to lead by example and do the right thing. Covid 19 is real and knows no colour or creed. It knows no socio economic status or political affiliation. It kills and it must be stopped. Wash your hands Zimbabwe. Maintain social distance and mask up Zimbabwe.
Together we can. Victory is certain.
