False Start To Schools Reopening - ARTUZ

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has said there was a false start to schools reopening today. The teachers union gave the government an ultimatum and said if there are no salary reviews by next when the rest of the students are supposed to go back to school, they will embark on a street protest:

Said ARTUZ:

Unsurprising false start to schools opening. We are giving gvt up to 22 March to attend to the incapacitation crisis. If government fails, we are inviting citizens to join us as we physically take to the streets in protest defending our education sector. #SaveOurEducationZw

Last week civil servants also gave the government a 7 days ultimatum and said if their salaries were not reviewed in 7 days they will withdraw their services too. The National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) met with the government and civil servants declined the government’s offer of a 25% increase.

Last week the minister of Primary and Secondary Education threatened teachers who were planning to not show up for duty and said they will be guided by the boycotts on where to deploy new recruits.
