Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Formally Assumes Duty At The WTO Director General
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the former Nigerian Minister who recently made history by being appointed 1. the first female WTO Director-General and 2, the first African to hold such a position today officially assumed duty in Geneva. This was first shared by Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu who used Twitter to celebrate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and said:
Today we celebrate a milestone in the history of our glorious Continent. @NOIweala, the former Finance Minister of the Nigeria has officially reported for duty in her capacity as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.
According to Economic Times  Okonjo-Iweala as she took office today said she was ready for the job:

I am coming into one of the most important institutions in the world and we have a lot of work to do. I feel ready to go.

She is already working towards ensuring that overfishing is a thing of the past according to the publication which stated:

Negotiators have been tasked by Okonjo- Iweala with striking an agreement that could help eliminate subsidies for illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, and prohibit some fisheries subsidies that contribute to overcapacity and overfishing.

Meanwhile, using Microblogging site Twitter she said she was thankful for the people who signed the petition that was used to racist & sexist remarks made by a newspaper Luzerner Zeitung after they called her the grandmother that will head the WTO:
