Harare residents could be without water over the weekend after the Harare City Council (HCC) announced a shutdown at Morton Jaffray and Warren Control Waterworks from Friday to Sunday for the installation of new pumps.
In a public notice, HCC said a successful installation of the new pumps and other maintenance works will reduce water losses that are currently being experienced. The statement read:
The Harare City Council would like to notify residents and stakeholders that there will be a shutdown at Morton Jaffray and Warren Control Waterworks scheduled from 4 pm on Friday 18 December up to 4 pm Sunday 20 December 2020. The shutdown is to enable our contractors to install new water pumps.
The department will also be taking advantage of this critical shutdown to undertake other critical outstanding maintenance works.
The successful completion of these works will reduce physical water losses currently obtaining in the system.
We urge you to use available water sparingly during this period.
Made a plan around this more than two decades ago, 28 years, to be more accurate! Yes! That’s how long it’s been, since water was supplied in my area!! Water tanks are an all too common sight in all areas, along with boreholes and an steady stream (pardon the pun), of bowsers, delivering water to homes and businesses! Shows how slow and incompetent those in charge of the water supply situation are, and have been! I certainly won’t hold my breath on this one, and can only cringe at the thought of the extortionate charges for it, if ,and when, this happens!
