By-Elections Suspension Is Vicious Assult On The Will Of The People - MDC Alliance

The by-elections suspension which was announced today by the government using SI 225A of 2020, has been criticized by the country’s largest opposition party the MDC Alliance which said by-elections suspension was a direct assault on the will of the people.

Using their official Facebook page, the MDC Alliance said:

The suspension of by-elections in circumstances where Zanu PF & its proxies continue to recall lawfully elected MPs & councillors is a vicious assault on the will of the people & the greatest threat to our #democracy in as many decades. This is #fascism. #Democracy is dead.

The party’s treasury general David Coltart also commented on the suspension of the by-elections and said they were meant to avoid an embarrassingly low turnout at the MDC T court-sanctioned congress:

The brazen collaboration between ZANU PF and its surrogates in the MDC T is remarkable. They have removed elected MPs, postponed a Congress to avoid the embarrassment of a low turn out, & delayed by elections indefinitely. Their utterly nefarious plot is now plain for all to see.

This comes after the Thokozani Khupe led MDC T outfit recalled 31 MPS and over 84 councilors countrywide including Chamisa’s VP, Gwanda, Beitbridge, Marondera, and Harare Mayors since the court ruling that gave the MDC T a phoenix resurrection.
