The MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa has reportedly mobilised youths to guard its offices in the Matabeleland region following the hostile takeover of its national headquarters, the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai (MRT) House on Thursday night by MDC-T youths who were backed by the military.
An internal memo reveals that the Alliance’s Bulawayo provincial office seeks to raise $10 000 as a matter of urgency to cater for the youths who will be guarding the premises. The memo read in part:
To Bulawayo province cadres who have the MDC Alliance party at heart. We have created a fund to which we are all being asked for contributions to cater to our urgent office welfare issues caused by adverse eventualities bedevilling our party of excellence at the moment.
The money is sought for immediate use. With the number of committed cadres in Bulawayo, we can raise the amount of $10 000,00 required at the moment.
According to the memo, which was signed by provincial party treasurer Sonny Phiri, some party officials have made contributions with $3 000 having been already raised.
Meanwhile, MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora said that after securing Harvest House, the provincial offices are next.
