Mudzuri Urges Mwonzora To Stop Recalling MDC Alliance MPs

Senior MDC-T official Elias Mudzuri has chided reinstated secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora for going on the rampage, recalling MDC Alliance MPs aligned to Nelson Chamisa.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, Mudzuri said the bloodbath should stop to allow opposition MPs to do their work of holding the government to account. Said Mudzuri:

I don’t enjoy anyone getting out of Parliament. I don’t want that to happen, as a senior member, those people have worked in their own different ways whether they went there (Parliament) by hook or crook but they are there representing the MDC.

We don’t want to withdraw parliamentarians. Why should we want them not to work for the people? Their job is within their constituencies.

Right now it’s the time of COVID-19 and I have said we don’t want to recall any parliamentarians…

Earlier this month, Mwonzora recalled four senior MDC Alliance MPs, Charlton Hwende, Prosper Mutseyami, Lilian Timveous and Tabitha Khumalo, saying they were no longer MDC-T MPs.

Mwonzora made the move after the Supreme Court had restored the stewardship of the party into the hands of ex-vice president Thokozani Khupe and the MDC (then MDC-T) executive elected at a 2014 party congress

Reports suggest that Mwonzora is going to recall six more MPs in his bid to force the remaining MDC Alliance legislators to defect from Chamisa and join the MDC-T party.
