Borrowdale Trauma Center founder Dr Vivek Solanki while speaking to ZimMorning Post’s Elias Mlambo responded to the story that is circulating on social media that a patient died at the center and the dead body was left at the centre’s veranda for the whole night.
In his response, Dr Solanki said the patient was already dead when they were wheeled into the centre by their relative and they should not have been brought to the trauma centre in the first place:
It is unfortunate when the wrong information is dramatized in this manner. The patient was wheeled in by his relative dead. He was not treated but my staff and Doctors assisted by arranging for his body to be taken to an undertaker. No one was available for several hours. He remained where he was in the holding area.
He should not have been brought to us in the first place. He was already dead. I cannot comment further about the people that brought him to us. We shall let his family grieve and then we can call them in. We do not mistreat our patients and in fact we are well known to treat ill patients with utmost dignity
In the same interview, the doctor also said the COVID-19 Milton Park Clinic he was done setting up in Milton Park will treat COVID-19 patients for free.
