Ministry of Health and Child Care has collected specimens from a Chiredzi woman who died recently to ascertain whether she died of the virus or other issues.
The woman in question died on Tuesday at Chiredzi District Hospital after being admitted at the hospital for severe pneumonia which is one of the symptoms of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
This was revealed by Provincial Medical Director Dr Amadeous Shamu who said:
We collected samples from her body and sent them to Harare for testing after we classified her as Covid-19 suspect following her admission and subsequent death in hospital from severe pneumonia.
The symptoms she showed before her passing on(severe pneumonia) made us to treat her as a Covid-19 suspect and we expect results tomorrow(today)afternoon.
Shamu told The Herald that the remains of the deceased are not yet buried as health “teams delayed to go to Chiredzi Hospital to collect samples.
He added that the burial will be further delayed as it now has to wait for the results to come out. The World Health Organisation, however, directs that victims of the virus have to be buried within 24 hours after death to avoid the transmission of the virus.
