ERC Wants Chief Charumbira Punished For Defying A Court Order

Election Resource Center has approached the High Court in a bid to see Chief Charumbira punished for defying a court order that ordered him to issue an apology in 2017 after he was qouted urging all chiefs to rally behind ZANU PF in the elections that were going to take place the following year, The Herald reports.

Chief Charumbira refused to apologise and ERC has approached the court again. According to the publication, ERC’s founding affidavit reads in part:

It is imperative that respondent be punished for disobeying the court order and bringing the court into disrepute. He should be compelled to obey the court order

Because of the attitude of the respondent (Chief Charumbira), who has disdainfully failed and or refused to comply with the court order and attracting unnecessary court proceedings, he should be (ordered  to pay) costs (of suit) on a legal practitioner and client scale
