ZESA Clarifies On The “Electricity Is Cheaper On The First Day Of The Month” Social Media Rumors

The ZETDC has taken the time to further clarify their electricity tier pricing model which has caused a lot of confusion on social media all over the country.

Writing on social media the power company said:

ZETDC would also like to advise that there is no promotion or any cheaper electricity to be obtained by purchasing on the first day of the month, as is being reported in the social media. Please note that these messages are not true and should be ignored

The correct position is that customers can buy the 1st 50 units at 41c, the next 150 units (51-200) at 91c and any other purchases beyond the 200 units arre charged at $3.87. These charges apply at day of a given month, be it the 1st, 10th, 25th etc as long as it is their first purchase of electricity tokens that month.

Social media was awash with stories promotion or cheaper electricity to be obtained by purchasing on the first day of the month.

  1. Iwe advocate iwe kwana. Which household in the low surbabs uses 200 units per month? Yave mhosva here kugara kuma surbab. We have extra consumption compared with high density surbabs which has become basic due to the govt trashing the country….like borehole pumps because there is no water services from councils , security systems because the police is now knocking off at 5pm etc the houses are bigger and have more occupied rooms hence more lighting and gadgets. You have now labled us electricity consumer deliquents are you out of your mind or the Mtuli syndrom of paranoia has infected you too
