President Mnangagwa Flies To Botswana For Elephants Summit

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived in Botswana where he is set to attend the 2019 Elephant Summit. Mnangagwa will be one of the five Heads of State of countries in the KAZA TFCA region.

Among other issues, the summit is expected to establish ways to deal with the growing population of elephants in the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA). It is also expected to review the 1989 ban in international trade in ivory by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).

The summit comes after SADC environment ministers have already agreed to resolutely and collectively champion sustainable utilisation of wildlife resources for the good of citizens.

Tourism minister, Priscah Mupfumira who is also attending the event has urged the region to adopt homegrown solutions to address issues affecting the tourism sector.
