Former MDC MP Eddie Cross has demanded that the international media recognise what President Emmerson Mnangagwa has achieved since becoming President.
Cross was in South Africa where he chided the country’s media for its failure to appreciate Mnangagwa’s commitment to reform. The Sunday times quotes Cross as saying:
There is no doubt in my mind that Mnangagwa will take Zimbabwe down a different route.
And I think in the past nine months (since the election) he’s not received sufficient recognition from the international media for what he’s actually achieved.… There would be no engagement from the international community if a political reform agenda is not adopted or followed.
In his (President Mnangwagwa’s) view, we had to have legitimacy recognised by the international community in order to put the country back on its feet. We were really quite surprised at the strength of his view.
Cross has been on a crusade, promoting the “New Dispensation” since he quit active politics and turned his back on the MDC where he was a legislator for many years.
