Mudzuri Avoids MDC Standing Committee Meeting As Party Hawks Seek For His Expulsion

MDC vice-president Elias Mudzuri on Friday failed to attend the party’s standing committee meeting. It is thought that Mudzuri failed to attend the crunch indaba for fear of heckling, as happened to him last month at an MDC demonstration held in Harare.

Mudzuri was heckled when he tried to address the crowd and had to be whisked away from the event by the party’s security. The hordes of MDC supporters accused Mudzuri of having ‘sold out’ after he attended a function at State House against the advice of his parliamentary colleagues. A Herald report claims:

His attendance will obviously draw heckling, booing and, at worst, violence like what happened to former deputy treasurer Elton Mangoma just before the last split in 2014.

It is now a tricky situation for him because his continued absence can be used as a basis to take disciplinary measures against him.
