Drier Parts Of The Country To Be Cleared For Oilseed Crop Farming: Mnangagwa

The government has put in place plans to produce oilseed crops which will meet national needs in the next four years. Drier parts of the country which include Matabeleland South, the Zambezi Valley including Kanyemba, and Binga have been earmarked for the production of soya beans, cotton and groundnuts. The development comes after the country experienced severe shortages of edible oil in the past few weeks. The shortages were attributed to the unavailability of raw materials needed in the production of cooking oil. Speaking at a ZANU rally in Murombedzi

We have a programme which we want to roll out in Muzarabani, Kanyemba, Binga, Matabeleland South, Sabi Valley and in Maranda… We have mobilised funding to open up tens, if not hundreds of thousands of hectares of land in response to cooking oil shortages. We ask why there are cooking oil shortages and we are told foreign currency constraints.
