Losers Must Accept Electoral Defeat In A Dignified Manner: Mnangagwa
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for all people who will be defeated in the July 30 harmonised elections to do so in a dignified manner. The president Emphasized that he has put in place special measures to ensure free and fair elections. Officiating at the launch of the Bindura University of Science Education National Sports Academy yesterday, President Mnangagwa said
Let those who win do so with humility and honour, realising that they carry the nation’s hopes and aspirations. In similar spirit, let those who lose demonstrate discipline and good sportsmanship by accepting defeat. I once again call upon all political contestants to be peaceful throughout the pre, during and post-election period…My Government has put in place concrete measures to ensure transparent, free, fair and credible elections.
However, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba on Monday said that the elections are going to go forward even if the voters’ roll has anomalies. She said that the only recourse for candidates who are affected by the irregularities would be to challenge the results of the election.
