Following a backlash from many customers who were unhappy with Mazoe’s new taste, Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited has agreed to reintroduce the original Mazoe beverages which are made with no artificial sweeteners. The company had claimed that it was using artificial sweeteners because it was fighting obesity and insisted that the chemicals are perfectly safe. However, this did not go down well with many Zimbabweans who made their feelings known on various social media platforms. In a statement, the company said,
Today, The Coca-Cola Company and Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited are announcing that the Original Mazoe recipes for all flavours will be back on shelves in the near future. We have listened to consumer demand and appreciate all the feedback that has been received. In order to meet those desires but still provide choice, both the original recipes of Mazoe and the reduced sugar recipes will be offered.
We stand by the safety of all ingredients used in our products and we’re committed to offering choice to help people reduce added-sugar in their diets. Both variants will be clearly labelled, actively encouraging and enabling consumers to enjoy our added-sugar beverages responsibly.
Good move by management. In future you have to consult widely before making such changes. You should also have given some tangible information on the magnitude of obesity to Zimbabwe populace and its implication to health of the nation.
Who had raised the obesity issue in Zimbabwe? Do we have obesy people to worry about as a nation? Mazoe orange crush is a national heritage. Tourist take it to their countries as a souvenir. No come by night alien manager must change that.
