MDC-T vice president Elias Mudzuri has revealed that he will be engaging legal experts from outside the party to interpret the party’s constitution and provide guidance on the succession issue. This comes at a time when the party’s vice presidents, Mudzuri, Thokozani Khupe and Nelson Chamisa are battling to succeed founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai who was buried in Buhera on Tuesday after dying from colon cancer. Chamisa was appointed acting president a day after Tsvangirai’s death although Khupe has argued that she is the rightful acting president.
Said Mudzuri:
We have the party’s secretary-general (Douglas) Mwonzora, who is a lawyer (and) can interpret to us the constitution What is clear is that we should go for Congress. The secretary-general knows the constitution. I am just an engineer.
Our constitution needs to be taken to lawyers who can interpret it. We need good lawyers who can interpret our constitution. If need be, let there be external lawyers who can come in and help to interpret our constitution. We want to work on the truth and deliver leadership accepted by everyone.
We want to bring sanity to mischievous behaviour by some members in the party. Our society will not forgive us if we fail to unite. We must align ourselves first for us to talk about a successful MDC Alliance.

I believe this is a step in the right direction.
But there is no time for a congress, there is time for campaigns. elections are here.
Sour grapes Old man
Even if MDC goes to Congress, Mudzuri will not win! Forget about the presidency Mr Engineer! There is only one president and that is HE Nelson Chamisa (Country President in waiting). To Khupe and Mudzuri, I say Stop the War and follow the leader! Thank you.
This circus must stop
