A 27-year-old artisanal miner has been arrested after a football dispute allegedly turned fatal at a tuckshop in Colleen Bawn, Gwanda District.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Stanford Mguni confirmed the incident, which happened at the Penzas Mine tuckshop.

The deceased has been named as Bukhosi Ndlovu, 30. He was watching the Manchester City versus Liverpool match at the weekend with fellow artisanal miners, including Abel Gozho, 27.

It is alleged that Ndlovu became angered by Gozho’s banter after Manchester City scored. He picked up a stone and struck Gozho on the head.

Gozho allegedly retaliated by drawing a knife and stabbing Ndlovu in the collarbone, killing him on the spot.

The game in question was the English Premier League fixture, Liverpool FC vs Manchester City, Matchday 6 on Sunday, 11 October 2026 at Anfield in Liverpool.

Manchester City defeated Liverpool 3-0. The visitors silenced a hostile Anfield crowd as second-half goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki secured a 3-0 victory over 10-man Liverpool.
