The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has set new fuel prices effective 8 October 2026, with diesel and petrol blend prices remaining above US$2 per litre.

Under the latest review, diesel now costs US$2.04 per litre, while petrol blend is priced at US$2.05.

ZERA’s previous review, on 17 September, set diesel at US$2.08 per litre and petrol blend at US$2.06, meaning the latest prices represent slight reductions for both fuel types.

In its latest notice, ZERA said fuel operators could sell the products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages. It also reminded operators to display prices prominently, as required by fuel pricing regulations.

Fuel price pressures have also been felt in neighbouring South Africa, where the government announced increases effective 7 October 2026.

South African Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Gwede Mantashe said the country reviews fuel prices monthly, taking into account international and domestic factors.

He said South Africa imports both crude oil and finished petroleum products at prices determined by the international market, with costs such as shipping also influencing pump prices.

“The average Brent crude oil price increased from US$87.89 to US$101 during the period under review,” Mantashe said.

He attributed the increase to continued tensions between the United States and Iran, uncertainty over oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, higher shipping costs and declining inventories.

South Africa increased petrol prices by between R3.12 and R3.33 per litre, while diesel prices rose by between R2.84 and R3.24 per litre.
