Cyber-bullying charges against Zimdancella chanter Killer T have been withdrawn after Ambassador Kwame Muzawazi dropped his complaint.
The singer, real name Kelvin Kusikwenyu, had sent Muzawazi a series of threatening and insulting voice notes after dogs owned by his friend, car dealer Gilbert Rumbwere, 44, mauled to death Malcolm Takudzwa Muzawazi.
Killer T publicly apologised to Muzawazi on Tuesday.
Addressing journalists at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, his lawyer Dumisani Mthombeni said the family had accepted the apology.
“We are just coming out of court. Today is another happy day. I am very grateful first and foremost to the complainant, Ambassador Kwame Muzawazi, who accepted the apology which we offered yesterday with my client,” he said.
“We are also grateful to the Muzawazi family, who equally accepted the apology and believed it to be genuine, to be sincere. It came from the heart.
“My client acknowledges that he erred, he was very sincere, and he regrets his conduct.
“The Ambassador has filed a withdrawal affidavit. The State has accepted it and charges have been withdrawn. My client is now a free man.”
Mthombeni said Killer T had told him he will quit drinking.
“It’s unfortunate we cannot reverse what has already happened, but he can only soldier on to be a better person,” he said.
“We hope other youths and people out there will learn from this experience. Alcoholism is a serious problem. The problem of drugs and substance abuse is a real problem in our country.
“Don’t abuse alcohol to such extremes. It can get you in trouble, in real trouble. He would have gone into custody or spent a longer time in jail.
“But we are grateful for the gesture that has been extended to him. It’s another chance that he has been given.
“I hope he makes full use of it and he will contribute meaningfully to all national efforts in the fight against drugs and substance abuse.”
