ZANU PF has begun reviewing its constitution to align it with recent amendments to the national Constitution through the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment No. 3 Act.
The exercise is being undertaken by the party’s Legal Standing Committee, with technical support from Government departments including the Attorney-General’s Office, following a resolution by the membership.
ZANU PF Secretary for Legal Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi, who is also Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, said the process started over the past week.
“The review of the ZANU PF constitution was one of the resolutions passed by the membership to align it with amendments effected through Constitution Amendment No. 3. We have started the process and our Legal Standing Committee has been working on the adjustments,” he said.
“We are reviewing our constitution to align it with the national Constitution.”
Ziyambi said the review is also intended to simplify the party’s supreme document so it can be easily understood by ordinary members, not just legal practitioners.
“We have undertaken a comprehensive review of the constitution so that it is easier for ordinary members to understand,” he said.
The proposed changes are expected to be tabled for consideration and possible adoption at the ruling party’s 23rd Annual National People’s Conference, to be held at Chinhoyi University of Technology from 12 to 17 October, in accordance with party procedures.
Ziyambi added that the party had resolved that President Mnangagwa will remain its presidential candidate whenever the next Congress is convened.
