ZAOGA Forward in Faith International on Sunday, 20 September, held a celebration at Glamis Arena in Harare to honour the life and legacy of its late founder, Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti, and to officially welcome his successor, Joseph “Joe” Guti, as the new leader of the church.

The event, the church’s Legacy National Big Sunday, drew thousands of members and followers who thronged the venue for the special commemorative programme.

It also provided an opportunity to welcome Guti and his wife, Nyasha, as heirs to the church following the death of its founder in 2023 after more than six decades at the helm of ZAOGA FIF.

Addressing the gathering, Guti urged Christians to pray for those in authority.

“Every Christian must pray for their Government. Pray for Government leaders and do not just criticise them, but pray for them. Pray as ZAOGA. You are the salt of the nation,” he said.

He dismissed claims that ZAOGA members worship the late Archbishop.

He said members were merely walking in the footsteps of the founder, who was only a messenger of God.

“Baba Guti used to say he was just a messenger of God. We did not worship him and will never worship Baba Guti,” he said.

“He gave us Jesus; he pointed us to Jesus of Nazareth. We are disciples of Christ and followers of Baba Guti.”

The widow of the late founder, Eunor Guti, said Archbishop Guti was the right leader to take the church forward and should be supported.

“This vision is not of any human being, but of God, and we have proved that from the beginning until the time our legendary father went to rest,” she said.
