ZESA (Private) Limited has appointed Cletus Nyachowe as its Group Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 May 2026.

In a statement, Board Chairman Albert Joel Nduna said the appointment follows the restructuring of the ZESA Group into a single, vertically integrated electricity utility operating as ZESA (Private) Limited.

Nduna said Nyachowe is a highly experienced business executive and electrical engineer with extensive technical and operational experience within the electricity and telecommunications industries.

He holds a BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Zimbabwe. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers.

“Having joined ZESA in 1988, Eng. Nyachowe has accumulated extensive institutional knowledge and has served the organisation in several senior, technical and executive capacities,” reads the statement.

“His previous leadership responsibilities include serving as Managing Director of Powertel Communications, where he led the establishment and development of Zimbabwe’s first data-focused telecommunications service provider.

“He subsequently served as Executive Director – Group Operations at ZESA Holdings, with responsibility for providing executive leadership and operational coordination across the Group’s businesses.

“He also served as Executive Director – International Business for ZESA Holdings. He has also held responsibility for the Country’s national electricity transmission infrastructure and has undertaken consultancy work across the SADC region on renewable energy and regional electricity market development.”

Beyond his executive roles, he brings considerable corporate governance experience, having served as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of institutions spanning the banking, insurance and asset management sectors, as well as universities and regulatory entities.

Before his substantive appointment, Nyachowe served as ZESA’s acting Group Chief Executive Officer, leading the organisation through a critical period of institutional transition and restructuring.

“The Board, Management and Staff extend heartfelt congratulations to Eng. Nyachowe on his appointment and express full confidence in his leadership as he assumes responsibility for driving the strategic and operational transformation of the newly integrated ZESA (Private) Limited,” said Nduna.
