Overloaded Probox in head-on collision with truck, four killed

Four people died on the spot, and six others were seriously injured after a head-on collision on the Ngundu-Tanganda Road on Thursday night.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the accident occurred at around 8 pm at the 2km peg along the road.

A Toyota Probox carrying ten passengers and travelling towards Ngundu collided head-on with a Hino rigid truck that was heading towards Chiredzi.

Four passengers in the Probox died at the scene, while six others sustained serious injuries.

“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 20/08/26 at approximately 2000 hours, at the 2km peg along Ngundu Tanganda Road,” reads the statement.

“A motorist driving a Toyota Probox vehicle, carrying ten passengers and travelling towards Ngundu, was involved in a head-on collision with a Hino rigid truck which was travelling towards Chiredzi.

“Four passengers who were travelling in the Toyota Probox died on the spot, while six others sustained serious injuries.

“The bodies of the victims were conveyed to Neshuro District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.”
