Chiwenga Is The Real Power Behind The Throne: Opposition Speaks On General’s Appointment

The opposition political parties have claimed that the appointment of Vice President and former Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces General (Retired) Constantino Chiwenga to administer the Ministry of Defence proves that the military intervention was meant to benefit the military and not Zimbabweans. The November military intervention codenamed Operation Restore Legacy resulted in the fall of former president Robert Mugabe. The opposition parties also claimed that the power dynamics show that General Chiwenga is the real power behind the throne.

MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said:

It has always been clear that Chiwenga is the real power behind the throne. It’s pretty obvious that he wields tremendous power and influence in the Mnangagwa administration.

He is being rewarded for masterminding Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to the presidency. This administration has got a very strong military flavour. This is the reason why Chiwenga has been given responsibility over the defence ministry.

Real power actually lies with the military. They are the power brokers

Kurauone Chihwayi, spokesperson of the Welshman Ncube-led MDC said:

This has proven that it was a scheme by those inside and outside Zanu PF to fast-track military people to praesidium. It is now clear that they pushed Mugabe out for themselves.

Mnangagwa has surrounded himself with fierce Generals wearing a sheep skin.

Gift Nyandoro of the National People’s Party (NPP) added:

In essence, ED is not in control of the present government dynamics; it’s the army that is calling shots.

Secondly, Chiwenga’s appointment is simply a consolidation of military position into the matrix of civilian politics.

The fact as things stand out is that Zimbabwe is now under military rule with Mnangagwa as the face conveniently placed as president for purposes of sanitising a coup governance product.

  1. He who lives by the gun dies by the gun
A courageous people can remove these brutal thugs but as long as you believe that these people fought a liberation war for you you have lost.
Know and understand that they politicised your need militarized it then held you captive for 37 years.
To be free you need to be wide awake and circumspect focused and deliberate.
We pray for Zimbabwe to wake up stand up speak up and not shut up until you are heard and things change
At the moment what is going on behind closed doors is determining how they will once again con the international community into supporting them as they continue to steal your rights your wealth your life and the opportunities for the young just as they have since before liberation
They were trained by Russia, China, and North Korea
If you want to know what they plan for you look at the common man in each of those countries and be afraid be very afraid

  2. It is a fact.Without the intervention of the generals ED was history. He owes his position to the military. They made him and he belongs to the..It does not take a genius to recognise this. The coup was not aimed at crooks surrounding Mugabe but at ensuring that the interests of the generals were safeguarded by the elevation of ED. If Zimbabwe will be better off for this intervention that will be a bonus but that was not the motive for the coup.
