Sungura legend Alick Macheso has thanked businessman Wicknell Chivayo after receiving a brand-new 2026 Toyota Fortuner GD-6 and US$10,000 in cash.

The gifts extend to Macheso’s wider camp. His manager will get a Toyota Aqua and US$2,000 for fuel. Five members of the Orchestra Mberikwazvo band and three dancers are also set to receive a Toyota Aqua each, plus US$2,000.

The gesture follows a road accident over a week ago involving Macheso’s Toyota Fortuner. He was travelling from Mutoko at the time and escaped unharmed.

Chivayo checked in with the musician via video call. He later found out that the vehicle damaged in the crash was Macheso’s personal SUV, not the Mercedes-Benz GLE 400d he had given him in March 2024.

“With a heart full of gratitude, I, my family, my colleagues, and our supporters raise our hands and say thank you very much, Sir Wicknell Chivayo,” Macheso said.

“You have lifted us and shown us great love through the gift of a car, as well as gold. These are not just gifts, but a sign of a generous heart that sees and appreciates the work of others.

“Our joy is beyond words. We were especially delighted to learn that some of our band members will also receive cars and money in the coming weeks.

“It is a sign that you are not lifting just one person, but the entire Orchestra Mberikwazvo family.

“We pray that God will continue to bless you with good health, wisdom and a long life.

“May your hand never tire of giving, and may God multiply your blessings because of your generous heart.”
