Unconfirmed reports suggest that the victims were schoolboys who boarded the bus at Juru Growth Point on their way to Mutoko.
It is alleged that the bus was already full when they got on, but they were told seats would become available soon.
However, when the bus reached Musami Cross, a few kilometres down the road, it became even more crowded. The boys then asked for a refund for the rest of their journey so they could get off and find other transport.
It is further alleged that instead of getting help, they were forced off the bus and assaulted by the crew. The US$20 they had paid for the trip was also not refunded.
