The Zimbabwe Funeral Services & Assurance Workers Union (ZIMFAWU) has lodged a formal complaint with the National Employment Council (NEC) for the funeral industry over the non-payment of salaries to employees of Moonlight Provident & Associates for seven months.
In a letter dated 5 June 2026 and addressed to the NEC, the union described the situation as a breach of the National Employment Council (Funeral Industry) Collective Bargaining Agreement and Section 12 of the Labour Act [Chapter 28:01].
ZIMFAWU secretary-general Farai Simoko said the company’s failure to pay salaries dating back to October 2025 had left many families struggling.
The union has urged the NEC to investigate the matter, compel the employer to settle all outstanding wages, and ensure future compliance with labour laws. It added that employers in the funeral industry are required to pay salaries no later than the last day of each month.
ZIMFAWU warned that continued non-compliance undermines workers’ rights and violates the sector’s collective bargaining framework.
The union has appealed to the NEC to treat the matter as urgent, adding that the livelihood of multiple families is at stake.
