The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that eight people died in a road traffic accident which occurred between Gokwe and Kwekwe early on Wednesday morning.
In a brief statement, the ZRP said a Trip Trans bus carrying 36 passengers tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with a haulage truck.
The crash happened at around 5 am at the 110-kilometre peg on the Gokwe–Kwekwe Road, towards Kwekwe.
The accident comes just two days after six people were killed in a head-on collision on the Harare–Bulawayo highway on Monday.
Police said a Honda Fit and a haulage truck collided at the 223-kilometre peg near the Redcliff turn-off at 5:45 pm on 25 May 2026.
On Saturday, eight Roman Catholic Church members died when a Toyota Noah plunged off the Deka River Bridge near Hwange.
The victims were returning from night prayers at St John’s Makwa Mission when the vehicle struck the bridge’s concrete barriers and toppled over at about 7 am.
