The National Sports Stadium (NSS) will host an operational test match on Sunday, 31 May 2026, as part of final preparations for its full reopening following extensive renovations, the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture has announced.
The test match is meant to assess the stadium’s systems, spectator flow, safety protocols, seating arrangements, pitch standards and overall readiness ahead of full-scale local and international events.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) are expected to announce the teams that will play in the match. The game will allow the Ministry to test all operational systems at the venue.
In a statement released on 22 May 2026, Secretary for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Nicholas Moyo, said the public should turn out in numbers to witness the “historic moment” as the stadium prepares to “reclaim its place as the home of Zimbabwean football and international sporting excellence”.
The renovated facility now features upgraded bucket seats, modernised amenities, an improved playing surface and an enhanced spectator experience in line with international standards, the Ministry said.
Moyo described the test match as an important milestone in the revival of Zimbabwe’s sport infrastructure and urged the nation to “unite in celebrating” the reopening.
The National Sports Stadium, Harare’s largest sporting venue, has been closed for refurbishment works to bring it up to international standards.
